Czech Republic - Fakescape
The main winner of the 2021 Youth Karlspreis competition is the Czech project Fakescape. The unique games developed by a student association teach schoolchildren to check, question and read information carefully. Through a combination of board and escape games, young people learn how fake news, disinformation and manipulation work. The members of the association visited around 200 schools in the Czech Republic, Sweden, Spain, Ukraine, Germany and even India, where they were able to teach over 15,000 pupils in more than eleven countries.
Romania - ‘Generation Z’
The Romanian project ‘Generation Z’ won second prize. Initiated by secondary school students at the ‘Mihai Viteazul’ grammar school, the project aims to shape a new generation of responsible and educated EU citizens through educational events. Around 300 pupils from different countries took part in the events, where they met interesting personalities to promote curiosity, critical thinking, freedom of expression and dialogue between generations.
Spain – EuroInclusion
Third place went to the Spanish project EuroInclusion, an organisation of young Europeans with disabilities that aims to achieve the full social, cultural and political integration of citizens with disabilities in a free, diverse and united Europe.
