On Ascension Day, 14th May 2026, in the Coronation Hall of the Town Hall on the site of the former Imperial Palace, the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen was awarded to the former President of the European Central Bank and former Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Professor Mario Draghi, in recognition of an outstanding European life's work and in particular honour of his agenda for the future of an economically strong, competitive, united Europe.
