Exhibition Guide
Front-of-house for the Charlemagne Prize permanent exhibition, Grashaus, Aachen
Starting in autumn 2026, we are looking for new assistants to run the Charlemagne Prize permanent exhibition in the Grashaus, guide guests through the history of Europe's most prestigious award for services to European unity — and be part of that history yourself.
- Get up to speed on the history of the Charlemagne Prize and the biographies of past laureates
- Look after the exhibition and guide visitor groups — especially from the tri-border region (multilingual skills are a plus)
- Plan and run guided tours for youth groups and tourists
- Support the exhibition's multimedia elements — a technical affinity is helpful
- Be the point of contact for visitors with questions about the exhibition, the Charlemagne Prize, and current events in Europe
- Engage with visitors interested in European affairs — you are the face of our exhibition
- Interest in European history and current European politics
- Enjoy meeting people from all backgrounds and are comfortable speaking in front of groups
- Reliable and able to work independently during opening hours
- Good German and English skills; additional languages (especially Dutch or French) are a plus
- Basic technical understanding for multimedia applications is an advantage
- Available on at least two opening days per week (Thu–Sun)
- For student assistants: Enrolment at a university (International students: valid residence permit with authorisation to work in a minor part-time job ("Minijob") in Germany
- A workplace in a beautiful small chapel in the Grashaus, right in Aachen's historic old town
- Inspiring insight into a very special story with a political and cultural dimension
- A close-knit, family-like team and flexible use of your time while on duty — you can study, write, or work on your own things in between
- A role at Aachen's currently most-visited "museum", with further development planned (e.g. a redesigned courtyard, new media elements, updates on laureates and Youth Prize winners)
- The option to take on further tasks within the foundation, e.g. in social media or event support
