Poland – ‘YOUrope needs YOU’
‘YOUrope needs YOU!’ is organised and planned by members of the European student forum AEGEE. The aim of the project is to empower university students across Europe to become active members of society. In workshops, we deepen their understanding of European affairs, highlight the opportunities that Europe offers and encourage young people to seize these opportunities through informal education methods.
France – Acthéa – European Festival of Student Theatre in Albi
Acthéa is a European festival of student theatre and street art. Acthéa is a week of cultural fireworks: international theatre, concerts of various styles, street art. In its ten years of existence, the festival has taken shape and colour, and its success today is proof of this: Acthéa has become the largest cultural event organised by students in Albi. This festival lasts one week in April. Every evening, audiences at the Albi Theatre have the opportunity to discover two plays performed with passion by young student talents from all over Europe. Events are spread throughout the week, with one whole day reserved for children, who are given the opportunity to discover Europe and its culture through music and street art.
Germany – Diplomats in rubber boots
Oberkante Unterlippe (Upper Edge Lower Lip) is a project in which young people from the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary and Germany work together on the ecological challenge of flood protection. The title refers to the growing risk of flooding in Europe, which is exacerbated by climate change and industrial interference with natural watercourses. The project addresses flood protection as a cross-border, democratic task and examines how local responses to global problems can be found. The project promoted exchange between the countries and culminated in a panel discussion with political decision-makers. As a result, demands for ecological action were sent to the parliaments. The project was awarded the Environment Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and is to be continued in the Netherlands in 2009.
