Text of the Certificate of Honour

On Ascension Day, 19 May 1977, in the Coronation Hall of the City Hall, the former Imperial Palace, the International Charlemagne Prize of the City of Aachen was awarded to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Walter Scheel, in recognition of his services in promoting responsible cooperation by the Federal Republic of Germany in the European Communities and his tireless efforts to consolidate and further develop these among the peoples of Europe.
