On Ascension Day, 28 May 1992, in the Coronation Hall of the City Hall, the former Imperial Palace, the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen was awarded to Jacques Delors, President of the Commission of the European Communities, in recognition of his tireless and determined efforts towards the political and economic unification of Europe.
