On Ascension Day, 12 May 1994, in the Coronation Hall of the City Hall, the former Imperial Palace, the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen was awarded to the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, Gro Harlem Brundtland, in honour of her European commitment and her worldwide efforts for social justice and the preservation of the natural foundations of life.
