Text of the Certificate of Honour

On 1 November 1988, in the Coronation Hall of Aachen's Town Hall, the former imperial palace, the International Charlemagne Prize for the year 1988 was awarded to the President of the French Republic, Mr François Mitterrand, and the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Helmut Kohl, in recognition of their continuous and successful efforts to achieve lasting friendship between their countries and to maintain and consolidate the European Community.
